Train as a PADI Divemaster in Galway, Ireland

So you want to become a PADI Divemaster?

Becoming a PADI Divemaster is a big step and takes a lot of commitment: you'll be sharpening your dive skills to demonstration quality, developing a professional level understanding of dive theory, organising and conducting scuba diving activities plus assisting with other divers in training.

PADI Divemaster Programme Details

The PADI Divemaster course offered here in Scubadive West consists of three modules:                                            PADI Divemaster Programme Galway
· Knowledge development
· Water Skills and stamina
· Practical Application

There are 12 topics to cover in the Knowledge Development, which you must cover through independent study, projects and discussion. You will purchase a PADI Divemaster Crew Pack, The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, the Diving Knowledge Workbook and your own Electronic Multilevel Dive Planner.
Lectures and discussions will be scheduled in order to broaden understanding on all subjects and when all studies are complete you'll take the PADI Divemaster Exams which require a 75% or higher mark for certification.

General Water Skills and Stamina will be evaluated and improved where necessary through timed swims, snorkels, tows and floats. This is to make you an excellent role model for other divers.

Practical application(s) will combine theory and water skills in conjunction with actual confined and open water training dives. Included are dive briefings and a mapping project of a dive site. Again your abilities in this area will be assessed for certification.

Requirements:

  • PADI Advanced Open Water Cert. (or equivalent) with proof of 20 dives
  • PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent) & current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Be at least 18 years old at start of training
  • Medical clearance for diving signed by a physician
  • We here at Scubadive West also require that the candidates have their own equipment and maintain the equipment as required. We offer substantial aid in obtaining the equipment here as we intend our DM's to be complete divers upon certification of the course.
  • If the candidate chooses to do Scubadive West's PADI Divemaster Internship (recommended) it is for a six to eight week period here at Scubadive West. Schedule alterations and personal obligations can be dealt with easily! Many of our Divemasters in training just come on weekends.

As you may have gathered there's a lot to it already but don't let that bother you. The Standards for PADI Divemasters are high but the rewards are even higher! Good Divemasters are sought after worldwide by the dive industry, so you will be able to choose a job anywhere in the world. How? ……the PADI 'Pros' web-site has a jobs listing (reads like a sun holiday brochure), which will be available to you when you receive your PADI Divemaster Certification.
