Go Pro with PADI

Why Go Pro with Scubadive West?

Scubadive West is Ireland’s leading PADI 5 Star IDC scuba training centre with an impeccable record for turning out sought-after PADI diving instructors. Cillian Gray is an established PADI Course Director and applies his years of scuba dive training experience to a tailor-made IDC course.

How Does the Instructor Course Work?

The IDC (Instructor Development Course) consists of two sections: the Assistant Instructor and the Open Water Scuba Instructor course. In 2015 you can complete the Assistant Instructor and OWSI in October, one after the other.

The PADI Openwater Scuba Instructor rating sets you apart from the crowd. PADI Instructors are the dive industry’s most valued professionals, and can teach the entire range of PADI programmes, from PADI Discover Scubadiving to PADI Divemaster level. After completing the PADI IDC you must attend an Instructor Examination where your teaching skills will be assessed. Upon successful completion of this you can undertake your PADI Specialty Instructor ratings.

PADI has recently stipulated that anyone intending to enrol on an IDC must have a valid Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI) qualification. Scubadive West will run an EFRI in advance of our full IDC, allowing any current Divemasters to upgrade.

Information on Emergency First Response Instructor Course

What will I Learn?

The Emergency First Response Instructor Course provides you with the additional training necessary to teach the Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid), Care for Children and First Aid at Work Courses. This course builds on your skills as primary and secondary care provider and focuses on developing your instructional abilities. Through independent study, classroom sessions and practical teaching assignments, you learn to conduct Emergency First Response courses.

The instructor course covers specific goals and performance requirements for each of the above-mentioned programs, along with instruction on how to structure learning, the requirements of performance-based training, and your own role in the learning environment. You also learn how to motivate students, how to evaluate student knowledge, how to present course content effectively, become proficient in developing students’ hands-on skills, and are taught how to present an effective scenario-based learning experience*.

Start Your PADI Instructor Course Today with the eLearning Option

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the cornerstone of PADI’s professional-level training. The course focuses on preparing you to function as a PADI Assistant Instructor or Open Water Scuba Instructor by introducing you to the complete PADI System. The course focuses your ability to use all components of the system as a professional dive educator.

What is eLearning?

You may now complete portions of the knowledge development for the IDC via eLearning. After enrolling, PADI’s eLearning system presents you with interactive presentations that include videos, audio, graphics and reading. Short quizzes let you gauge your progress, and review and correct anything you might happen to miss. This lets you move through the programme efficiently and at your own pace. The eLearning course will be available for use for one year from the time of course registration.

How much does eLearning Cost?

The PADI Instructor Development Course online is $320 (US). The fee covers nine separate topics online to prepare you for the practical sessions needed to complete your Assistant Instructor course or Open Water Scuba Instructor course. The two programmes combined make up the full IDC. After completion of the OWSI course or full IDC, you must successfully complete a PADI Instructor Examination (IE) and also be a CPR & first aid instructor before certification as an Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Will eLearning Save me Time?

Completion of the eLearning will reduce you IDC class time by over 7 hours. IDC candidates who have successfully completed this programme do not need to attend the first day of the IDC. Since you will have completed much of the knowledge development online, time is focused more on the practical sessions of your training. This means you also pay a discounted price of just €750 for your IDC, including AI (Assistant Instructor) and OWSI (Openwater Scuba Instructor). Or €950 for the IDC including AI, OWSI and EFRI (Emergency First Response Instructor). That’s a saving of €150!

There is an Assistant Instructor application fee or an IDC registration fee and IE fee that must be paid to PADI for processing. You will also need to purchase an IDC Crew-Pak and have a current PADI Instructor Manual depending on how recently you may have completed your PADI Divemaster course. There are also other required materials and personal dive equipment that you may already have.
